You'll have to ask Remi for a more detailed report on how the game is, I'm not very good with words nowadays.

Got my hands on a beta key for the remaining events if anyone wants it, let me know.

If there is high demand I will get more keys for those who need them, that is all.

Edit: The next beta events starts this coming friday.

    Tag,

What server are you playing on?

There are a few of us that I know of that will be getting this i beleive. Ive pre-ordered so will be starting for theHead Start on 24th Feb (depending on how long the inevitable patch takes!).

I'll be playing Defiant (almost certainly as a Elementalist/Pyromancer in the first instance, with no idea of what to choose for the 3rd soul!) but server is optional.

For beta I've been on Icewatch (think thats what it's called) but don't care which I play on, just not a PvP one (not fussed over RP one either).

Would be good if those of us intending to play all pick the same server.

Me and Remi have been playing on the Blightweald server (PvE)

But they might change the server names at launch so that may be subject to change, regardless we choose to go on a PvE server because of the people that don't want to take part in any world PvP and that's understandable.

We're both 30 as of latest beta and we've both decided on our final builds:

Remi (Remirez) Paladin/Void Knight/Reaver - ie. Tank, also has dual wield dps build for off-spec
Tag (Hagu) Shaman/Warden/Druid ie. Melee Dps, also has healing spec for elite rifts or instances.

    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html

This is a build calculator if anyone wants to start seeing what they like.

Oh and we are also Defiant, Guardians are pussies anyway.

I'm guessing that whatever servers are available in Beta will also be available at launch, just with a char wipe.

If not guess can just say we play on first or last alphabetically English PvE server!

I'll be a Kelari mage (mostly Elementalist and Pyro, with maybe a few pts in eitherr Archon, Warlock, or Dom) to start with, though was thinking of making a Tank (Pal/Reaver then VoidKnight or Warlord sprung to mind), but you know me and alts, they don't happen often!

Off spec with prolly be heavy in Chloro roll for heals, or maybe Dom for CC. Not sure yet though as I don't really like playing healers and CC!

I'm always a caster dps at heart in these type of games aswell, Lotro was just the exception as no true caster class when I started!

Is there like one build for each class (Rouge, Warrior etc) that is way superior to the rest? or can you kinda pick whatever builds you want to without being called a noob by everyone?

At first sight it seemed a bit complicated with all the builds and skills, but I guess its just seems that way when you havnt played the game yet.

As of yet there are no set way to build your character,

eg. a tank does not have to be a warrior archetype - paladin/void knight/reaver like remi

You can have cleric tanks, rogue tanks and different combo's of souls in the warrior tree to get the same outcome

eg. you could go warlord/rift blade/reaver and still become a tank but obviously there would be different number of points allocated then remi's build.

People will always claim that their build is stronger and the best but no one knows as of yet, obviously there will be better builds for just a sole purpose, having 2 tanking souls like remi will be more difficult to kill then someone with one soul theoretically but it always depends on what YOU want your character to achieve, if you want a tank that can deal some decent damage aswell, you would go for one tanking soul for example.

As of the latest beta event, people don't seem to criticise other people's builds as most people can't be bothered to make all the 206 combinations of souls in game and test them numerous time with different point allocations.

You find a archetype you want and then you make the class that YOU want to play, that's what is wonderful about the game, people don't ask for a hunter to dps, or for a guardian to tank, a tanking rogue can easily equal or surpass a warrior tank because of the difference between them depending on the instance etc.

As I know nothing of the game I find it really hard to choose any right paths to go. Im planning on going for a Rouge Infiltrator, with maybe Ranger/Marksman for the ranged DPS, but I have no idea tbh. How about the points? Do you accually get enough points to be able to get the highest tier skills in every soul tree?

As of right now you can get a total of 66 points which you can use to reach the top skill in two seperate tree's by having 31 points in each

But limiting yourself to 31 points doesn't allow you to have the top skills in the 'roots' part of the tree at the bottom.

The infiltrator soul is the rogue's PVP soul, each archetype has one.
You earn that by obviously gaining enough points in PvP but in order to go up the tiers of the tree, you need to be level 50 (Cap) and then you level up PvP ranks similar to lotro unlocking new armour but aswell the next tier of PvP soul to use.

Ah thank you, that was some pretty useful info since I`m planning on staying far away from PVP. Do you know any site where you can read about the different soul trees and their msin purpose?

This website tells you the basic roles that each soul fits along with the combat type.

    http://rift.zam.com/wiki/Callings_(Rift)

If you click on the soul it gives you a brief description of the soul but doesn't go in detail because of the game being in beta and its all subject to change.

Just to add something. You can get more souls later on in the game, during beta 5 it was level 15 I think. All you had to do is to complete a quest. You can have up to 4 roles, which you can swap easily. A role is the combination of 3 souls, any souls you have. You are only limited by your calling - warrior/mage/cleric/rogue. You can have any soul and soul combination of your calling, the 3 souls though are maximum in one role.

Still in beta so who knows how it'll end up, but it is a very flexible solution.

Still find it pretty complicating. But the soul tree kinda remind me of the skill-tree in Diablo 2, and I still remember the pain of realising you have been spending your points on the wrong skills.

Won't happen in the rift. You can just visit a trainer of sorts and reallocate your points. Similar with souls. The only permanent choice is your calling - warrior/rogue/mage/cleric.
