This is a recipe that I have been making for years using round steaks when they are on sale.

Cut the meat into large cubes, dredge in flour (seasoned with salt and black pepper) and fry quickly in hot oil until brown on all sides. Remove meat from pot.

Saute 1 onion in small amount of oil until soft, return meat to pot. Add beef broth, cut up carrots and potatoes. If you use dried herbs, now is the time to add them. Which ever ones you prefer is fine, some of my favorites are thyme, sage, garlic powder, bay leaf and marjoram. And of course salt and course ground black pepper.

Simmer this stew for about an hour and serve with crusty bread or if you omit the potatoes, serve over wide egg noodles. Oh and don't forget to remove the bay leaf before serving!

Please forgive the lack of measurements, I don't measure much when making things like this. If you want them, I'll try to guestimate.

    Bon Appetite!

this sounds just like irish stew except we leave out the herbs and cook it for longer so that the potatoes absorb the water ..nice and thick with buttered hot crusty bread

Probably comes from my Irish roots and could be made just as easily with lamb. :)
    BTW, welcome to the forum!

I love cooking too, which is hard since it's just my daughter and I so sometimes I cook for my neighbors or my office. My favorite part is throwing stuff together and coming up with something new (and edible).

    You were asking Tink, right?

Of course she will, I'll volunteer her. It's the least she can do for putting you in the jar.

I like to make soups and stews - anyone got any hints or tips about freezing.
