Welcome
Ben will be teaching on Sundays at 2 PM New York time. Please check out the BIL Events calendar for conversion to your time zone.
Ben brings logic and a fresh approach to bidding and playing. Volunteers will sit North and South and Ben will play the East / West hands. |

A big hi to everyone at the BIL, especially Rosemary for making me feel so welcome. Anyone in the BIL is always welcome to email questions and comments to me - or to contact me if you see me on bbo.
I've been playing serious bridge (whatever that is) for about 7 years. I'm a teacher (or maths), and love my job, so naturally I am happy to share what knowledge I have with anyone who is interested. In bridge, I am most passionate about bidding systems and philosophy. My road has been: ACOL -> 5 card majors -> Juggler's Club (my own strong club system), but I believe people should play the system they enjoy the most, rather than what people tell them is the best. Most of us will not win the Bermuda Bowl, so let's just have fun. I'm not a competitive person (as you can tell), though I have world records for juggling (12 balls solo, 18 balls between 2 people, on video on the web). But if anyone wants suggestions on how to maximize bidding fun, play a strong club system (e.g. precision), with a mini NT (10-12), and all 2+ level bids as weak: 2C = 4-4 majors or better, 2D = multi (6 card H/S), 2H/S = 5 cards + 4 card minor (even 5332 non-vul), 2NT = 5-4 minors or better, 3C/D = 6-7 card suit. This will let you open around 70% of hands - and believe it or not, you won't even get doubled that often! Well... except for the 1NT - make sure you learn how to escape! God bless, Ben. |
